This may look like a festive Blue Peter challenge, but it’s easy to create this centrepiece with a few simple instructions. The penguins’ bodies are made from home-made marzipan, then covered with coloured ready-to-roll icing and the scene set by building an igloo from a box of sugar cubes. Once the penguin figures are made and covered with icing, they’ll keep well in an airtight box for up to two weeks.

MAKES 8

For the marzipan bodies

40g hazelnuts

60g ground almonds

50g golden caster sugar

50g golden icing sugar

2–3 tbsp beaten egg

To decorate

1 pack of black ready-to-roll icing

1 pack of white ready-to-roll icing

1 pack of orange ready-to-roll icing

coloured icing to make scarves, hats, earmuffs
